Paintball Definitions C-E
Definitions of paintball terms from C to E
Eyes
Electronic devices that do not allow a paintball gun to fire until a paintball is completely loaded into the firing chamber. Ensuring that all paintballs are completely loaded before firing limits the number of chopped paintballs.

Expansion Chamber
A device that sits between the ASA and the valve of the paintball gun that is filled with multiple cavities or "stages" that air must pass through. By forcing the air to fill up the expansion chamber before reaching the valve, there is less of a chance that liquid CO2 will reach the internals of the paintball gun. Expansion chambers are not necessary for guns that use compressed air.

Closed Bolt
A paintball gun that closes the bolt while waiting for the trigger to be pulled. For a closed bolt paintball gun to fire, the paintball must already be loaded into the chamber with the bolt sealed behind it before the gun can be fired. Between firings its default setting is to have the bolt closed.

Dropforward
A metal attachment that lowers the level of the ASA and moves it forward on the gun. It is installed by removing the ASA, attaching the drop forward to the bottom of the gun and then attaching the ASA to the bottom of the drop forward. By moving the ASA forward the air tank will be more centrally located and the gun will be better balanced.

Circuit Board
The electronic portion of an electronic paintball gun that controls the firing of the gun. Circuit board might only control firing modes (semi-automatic, 3-round burst, etc.) as in an electromechanical paintball gun or they might control multiple aspects of the solenoid firing and recharge times in an electropneumatic paintball gun.

Capture The Flag
A game of paintball where opposing teams try to gain control of the opposing team's flag and return it to their own base.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
A gas that is stored in high pressure tanks in its liquid form. When it is released into a paintball marker it expands and forces paintballs out of the barrel at high speed.

Center Flag
A variation of capture the flag where opposing teams try to capture a single flag in the center of the field and then either return it to their own base.

Cock/Recock
The act of readying a paintball gun to fire. It consists of moving the bolt away from the firing chamber and readying it to move forward when activated by the trigger. The first time a gun is cocked is typically done manually but subsequent cocking is performed automatically as part of the firing cycle of the gun.

Compressed Air
Normal air that is compressed to high pressures (up to 4500 psi). When it is released into a paintball marker it expands and forces paintballs out of the barrel at high speed.

Death
The result of the elimination of a person.

Diameter
The width of a paintball at its thickest point.

Elbow
Some markers have the feed neck (where paintballs are inserted) situated at a 45 degree angle to allow a direct line of sight down the barrel. An elbow attaches to the feed neck and is bent another 45 degrees to allow a hopper to be attached.

Elimination
When a player has been hit or marked by a paintball that breaks on their body or equipment. Once a player is eliminated, they must then leave the playing field.

Eyes
Electronic devices that will not allow a paintball gun to fire until a paintball is completely loaded into the chamber, thus reducing the risk of misfired or shopped paintballs.
