Most paintball guns come with a pistol grip and can easily be held with one hand, so what's the difference between a paintball gun and a paintball pistol? The basic difference is that a paintball pistol has no tank or hopper.
Paintball pistols typically run on 12-gram CO2 tanks and have a small magazine that holds 10 or so paintballs. The CO2 tank will typically shoot around 20 shots (though that number varies considerably based on which model you use) and then must be replaced.
Paintball pistols are often used as small backups that one can carry in case their primary gun has problems. They are also used in dedicated pistol games and often are used in law enforcement training.
