NPPL's Parent Company Files for Bankruptcy

Thursday December 4, 2008
This week marked the end of an era with the Pacific Paintball filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. In short, everything they own including the NPPL, XPSL and Paintball2Xtremes Magazine will be sold off to cover debts. This signifies the end of one of the largest paintball promoting companies and severely puts a damper on the professional paintball circuit. For now, the PSP is king of the professional paintball world.

I don't know what this will mean in the long term, but for now, it's simply a sign of the times. Paintball is never going to be a big money sport and the simple truth is that many people are struggling to make ends meet. Many paintball fields and companies have gone out of business during the past year and one of the largest professional leagues following the trend only makes sense. Just as there isn't room for hundreds of manufacturers, there might not be room for multiple top-tier leagues.

Whatever happens, paintball will weather the storm and I'll still be out playing. Hopefully a few companies will still be around to keep me supplied.
