What Paintballs Do You Shoot?

Thursday February 21, 2008
Paintballs Unfortunately, if you want to play paintball you have to buy paintballs. The more you shoot, the more you spend. While tournament paint costs a pretty penny (see prices), it usually performs well. Conversely, discount paint (see prices) is cheap, but it may have other issues.

I have no problem using Monster Balls if I'm hosting a bunch of friends, but if I'm just buying for myself, I tend to buy something a little bit nicer. It's a constant internal debate about how to get the best bang for my buck.

Every paintballer has this dilemma, so I want to find out what you do. What brands of paintballs do you typically buy and why? What do you look for? What are you willing to pay more for? Leave a comment or shoot me an email and I, assuming there's a response, will create a list of the most popular brands and the most important issues in buying paintballs.

The first thing I always check for is dimples or flat spots on the paint. Next I try to see if the paint is perfectly round or if it is funny shaped. Those are the big two problem areas. Besides that picking paint is pretty much just trial and error; see what works and what you like. I like Draxxus Blaze, Evil, RPS Marballizer, and for the price Draxxus Spectrum is good too.

I agree that almost all paintballs work well if they are fresh and at the proper temp. Cold paint breaks in the gun, stale paint is very erratic and high humidity causes the paint to swell and break. Proper sizing is critical to making paint shoot straight under almost any condition.

I order my team’s through our sponsor (which doesn’t really amount to much of a discount).

I have found obviously, fresh paint is best. But also pretty much any Rps paint shoots well for me. Not a big fan of Diablo or Draxxas paint, but its not the worst. As for now, I have settled on Karnage paint which seems to be giving me my biggest bang for my buck.
