Keep It Safe

Friday January 25, 2008
I was recently at a professional paintball field playing as a walk-on and got put on a team. As we were discussing what strategy we wanted to use, I heard a shot and felt a searing pain in my thigh. One of my teammates had shot me from about two feet away as he was playing with his new gun. While I ended up with a nice welt, at least everyone was wearing a mask and the guns were all chronoed to under 280 fps. Somebody playing with a gun they think is on safety can lead to big problems if the proper safety precautions are not taken. Accidents happen, but all I was really at risk of was a bruise, not a blinded eye.

(1) Hector Rodriguez says:

My usual field is a stickler for safety, but for some reason, one day not long ago, a youngster with a poorly fitted mask got thru and during the game managed to be adjusting/pulling on his mask whe hit by a burst. Paint got inside of the mask with him and scared the h–l out of everyone. The ref’s are not the only ones responsible for safety, we are and if we don’t speak out, then we don’t have anything to complaint about.
